Next Season Big Brother Canada 7

Big Brother Canada 6 is the sixth season of Big Brother Canada.

Background

Hiatus

Soon after Big Brother Canada 5 concluded, Global announced that Big Brother Canada would be put on hiatus. Programming chief Barbara Williams stated, "“We did five seasons, which was a blast, and it delivered a big young audience. But we have to keep changing it up, we have to reinvent and try new things. Still, we never say never for the future. We are super proud of those seasons we did. But the best example is something like American Idol being cancelled and coming back. You never know what can happen."[1]

As a result, reality tv podcaster Rob Cesternino, host of Rob Has A Podcast started a petition on Change.Org[2]. However the petition never did reach the goal of 15,000 signs, it received 12,500 in which started the ball rolling.

Throughout the next month and a half, the fan base stormed social media with the hashtags "#SaveBBCAN"[3] and "#SaveBBCANParty"[4] Also in response, past Big Brother 8 (US) winner Dick Donato, held a special episode of his recap show, Dick at Night, in order to gather past houseguests together from both the American and Canadian versions to offer words of encouragement to propel the show forwards[5].

A couple of months later, popular twitter account hamsterwatch hinted on twitter about some upcoming news about the status of the show. However, since it was still uncover, she hinted:

"I have some tea I can't spill, but we need a #SaveBBCANParty to tell @Global_TV @CorusPR we have to keep BBCAN alive! #NowOrNever #HailMary"[6]

However on July 20th, 2017, Global announced during a Big Brother 19 (US) episode to visit the Facebook link shown on the screen with the hashtag "#YouCanAndYouWill", made famous during the first double eviction in season 5 in which host Arisa Cox told Sindy Nguyen to name a replacement nominee in which backdoored Neda Kalantar. At the web page, a countdown was shown on the screen will occasional snippets of past seasons of the past seasons[7] The countdown ended during the next episode during the Big Brother 19 eviction in where Arisa popped up on the screen stating that the show had been renewed for a sixth season [8]

Airing Schedule

On February 8, 2018, Corus announced the airing schedule for the season:

"Toronto, Canada – #BBCAN fans can finally mark their calendars as Global announces broadcast details for juggernaut reality series Big Brother Canada, premiering Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. With three recent Canadian Screen Award (CSA) nominations – including Best Reality/Competition Series – the perennial fan favourite returns three nights a week on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET/PT, Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Global. Building off of the powerful response from #BBCAN fans, viewers can expect Season 6 to deliver big twists, staggering challenges, and of course, lots of drama."[9]

Cast Reveal

Canada Cast Vote

During the season finale of Celebrity Big Brother 1 (US), Global's Twitter account released a short 15 second promo showing four houseguests, Mikey Jakobczak, Veronica Doherty, Kirsten ManInnis & Merron Haile[10]. However, on February 28, 2018, the Big Brother Canada website revealed that the four houseguests are possible houseguests and that one girl and one guy would be voted into the show[11].

The rest of the cast was revealed on March 1, 2018[12].

The "ET Canada" House Tour.

As result of the the franchise being put on hiatus, the house used since season 2 was demolished. However the show moved across town to Studio 550[13].

For the sixth consecutive season, The Brick will be decorating the house with their furniture. Viewers can see the house for the first time on ET Canada at 7:30 PM on March 5th.[14] The rumors were confirmed true with "Heaven vs. Hell" theme. The upstairs resembled Heaven while the bottom floor resembled Hell. The layout of the house remains almost identical with some of rooms left either smaller or larger[15].

House Photos

The house photos were released on March 5th immediately following the ET Canada house tour[16].

The Jury House

The Jury House is located at 2-8 Eagle Nest Ct, Bolton, ON L7E 0B4, Canada where it includes 8 bedrooms, 11 beds, 5 baths, and a squash court.[17][18][19]

After Dark

BBCAN6 After Dark Logo

Big Brother Canada: After Dark returns for season 6 on the official website rather than appearing on Slice or Global.[14]

Twists

  • Canada's Cast: Similar to Big Brother Canada 2 & Big Brother Canada 4, Canada will be voting for the final houseguests. Just like season 4, one man and one woman will enter the house.
  • Late Entry: Due to the Gatecrashers vote, the two final houseguests of "Canada's Cast" will enter on Day 6 rather than Day 1.
  • House Division: On Day 1, the houseguests selected chalaces to have a drink on the first night, and unaware to everyone Andrew Miller's had an additional blue eye. As a result, he had to divide the house into Hell and Heaven for the week. The houseguests in Heaven will be immune for the week. However, the Hell houseguests will be have-nots for the week while also being the only houseguests to compete for HOH and to be nominated for eviction.
  • Not Selected Immunity: For not having a partner in the Week 3 HOH competition, Erica Hill was given immunity for the upcoming week.
Canada Saves
Canada Saves Results
  • Canada's Save: Returning from season 1, for the Week 6 & 7 evictions, the Canadian Public will have the option to save one of the nominees. After the Wednesday night episode, viewers will visit the official website to vote if they would like to use the power or not and who to use it on. If a nominee is saved, the HoH will have to name a replacement nominee on the spot. The power may only be used once.[15] Houseguests that had been immune for the week and Power of Veto winners were not eligible for renomination.[16] The twist was used the first week. Ryan Ballantine was saved from eviction and Erica Hill was the replacement nominee and was evicted.
    • The voting percentages were:[17]
      • Ryan - 51%
      • Will - 36%
      • No Save - 12%
  • Original Jury Format: For the first time since season 1, the jury will only involve the final seven eliminated houseguests.[18]
  • Triple Eviction: Similar to seasons 3 & 5, a triple eviction will take out three people in one night.

Once all 14 houseguests entered the Big Brother house for the summer, Arisa Cox announced that this year would have the heaven vs hell twist. All the houseguests were told to grab a goblet. However, the houseguests didn't know that the person with a different colored goblet would be tasked with choosing who would be in heaven and in hell. Andrew was the one who had the different colored goblet and he chose Ali Martinez, Johnny Mulder, Kaela Grant, Maddy Poplett, Paras Atashnak, William Kenny, and Rozina Yaqub to go to hell. The other houseguests were safe for the week and wouldn't compete at the first competition. Johnny managed to win the first head of household competition. Johnny tried to play his head of household safe because he didn't want to get blood on his hands. He nominated Ali and Rozina. At the Veto competition, Johnny managed to pull off another win. At the Veto ceremony, he kept his nominations intact leaving Rozina and Ali in danger of eviction. At the first live eviction, Rozina was voted out unanimously and became the first person evicted from the house.

After Rozina's eviction, Arisa then revealed another twist which had two houseguests of Canada's choice to enter the house and they were not allowed to tell the other houseguests they had been voted in. Following the Gate Crashers' entry to the house they were given immunity and weren't allowed to play in this HOH, with it later being revealed that they also weren't allowed to vote during the eviction. The houseguests had to answer a series of questions based on the survey they took earlier. Ryan managed to win the competition. Ryan nominated Hamza and Andrew, but he wanted to backdoor Olivia Riemer. He tried to make the players picked throw the competition, but many didn't agree to it. Erica managed to pull off the veto win. At the Veto ceremony, Erica decided not to use the Veto. At the second live eviction of the season, Andrew was evicted in a unanimous vote.

Veronica Doherty and Hamza managed to pull off the win. The winning duo had to agree on who would be HOH for the week and they chose Hamza. At the nomination ceremony, Hamza decided to target Olivia for being a strategic threat, and Jesse for being a social and physical threat. At an intense Veto competition, Hamza managed to win the Veto securing him all of the power for the week. Hamza pondered saving Olivia from eviction and putting up Derek Kesseler because Derek was Jesse's closest ally. In the end, Hamza decided not to use the Power of Veto. At the live eviction, Jesse was evicted in a vote of 9-2 only receiving the votes of Veronica Doherty and Derek.

After being influenced by others, he wanted to make a big move by using the veto on Merron and sending Derek or Kaela on the block. However, Erica stated that Maddy would be the replacement nominee if he used it so Johnny decided not to use the veto. At the live eviction, Merron was evicted in a 5-3 vote receiving the votes of his close friends Derek and Kaela and the vote of Alejandra because of her incident with Ryan.

She decided to nominate Ryan as her target for his third time this season and Will as a pawn. The houseguests then competed in the veto competition. The houseguests played three rounds in the veto competition it ultimately came down to Ryan and Johnny. Johnny won his third veto of the season. At the veto ceremony, Johnny wanted to use the veto on his close friend, Will, however, he was worried another one of his close allies could be the replacement nominee. Ultimately, Johnny decided not to use the veto. At the live eviction, Arisa announced that Canada decided to use the save twist to save Ryan. Kaela then had to pick a replacement nominee. She chose Erica for her challenge dominance. At the eviction, Erica was evicted by a vote of 5-2 receiving the votes of her friend Johnny, and Ryan's vote because he perceived Will as a social threat.

Following Erica's eviction, The houseguests competed in the Before or After competition. It came down to a tiebreaker round and Derek won his first competition of the season. Derek put up Ryan because he and Kaela did not have a strong relationship with him. He remained a backup target in case Johnny won the vote. He nominated Johnny for trying to take out Kaela and Derek in previous weeks. He was also targeted for lying about voting to evict Will and competition dominance. Derek then won the POV. At the veto ceremony, he decided to keep his nominations in place. At the live eviction, Ryan was voted out unanimously.

Following Ryan's eviction, the houseguests competed in an endurance competition. After two and a half grueling hours Johnny managed to win his second HOH of the season. He targeted the showmance "Daela" but his main target was Derek. At the nomination ceremony, he did just that and nominated Derek and Kaela. At the veto competition, Derek managed to win his second POV of the season. Everybody was sure Derek would use it on himself so both sides of the house pushed for one of the others to be nominated in order to keep Kaela to go after Johnny. After only two rounds, Derek earned his second HOH of the season. He nominated Olivia and Johnny because they were after him and Kaela and they made a deal with Will, Maddy, and Paras. However, Maddy had to be nominated as a pawn. At the veto competition, Kaela won her second POV of the season. She decided to leave the nominations in place. At the second eviction of the night, Maddy received all 3 votes to save leaving Johnny and Olivia evicted.

At the veto ceremony, she decided not to use the veto to secure herself and her showmance a spot in the Final Four. At the live eviction, Maddy was sent home in a unanimous 2-0 vote.
