Pinoy Tayo - Rico Blanco (Music Video)

Current and modified rendition of Pinoy Ako performed by Rico Blanco in a 2022 music video, under the title "Pinoy Tayo".

Pinoy Ako (eng. I am Pinoy) is the main theme song of Pinoy Big Brother and has been the basis for much of the musical scoring used in the reality series.

The song was released in 2005, composed by Jonathan Manalo and sung by the pop-rock band Orange and Lemons. It has been used since the show's first season and has evolved into one of the iconic songs in Filipino pop culture. Since the show's inception in 2005, Pinoy Big Brother has released various versions of the theme song in different music genres. While it has many interpretations, the original Orange and Lemons version remain the most iconic version.

Despite being the main theme song of the Philippine Big Brother franchise, Pinoy Big Brother also uses different OSTs on both Celebrity Edition and Teen Edition. "Sikat ang Pinoy" (eng. Pinoy is Famous) is used for Celebrity Edition and "Kabataang Pinoy" (eng. Pinoy Youth) is the Teen Edition's official theme song.

In 2021, months before the launch of its 10th season, Pinoy Big Brother released a modified version of Pinoy Ako with Rico Blanco performing the new version of the song. Interestingly, the modified version was retitled as "Pinoy Tayo" (eng. We Are Pinoy). While the new version retains the lyrics, Blanco’s reimagined 2020s version of the song features the addition of Filipino culture elements, with instruments such as the bandurria and kubing, as well as a fuller sound with thicker bass, stronger guitar chords and deeper drum tones. Meaning[]

Pinoy Ako is a song that follows the main motto of the show, "Pagpapakatotoo" (eng. Authencity).

Like the reality series that promotes the value of authenticity by believing in oneself and embracing their imperfections, the song also aims to encourage the Filipinos to be proud and true to themselves no matter where they come from, wherever they go, and whatever challenges they face. The song shows that a Filipino can bravely show the world what it means to be a Pinoy and what a Pinoy can do by staying true to themselves without conforming to people's expectations.

Song Lyrics[]

Filipino Lyrics English Translation
Pinoy Ako

First Verse:
Iba't ibang kagustuhan, ngunit isang patutunguhan

Chorus:

Chorus:

Pinoy tayo!

I am Pinoy

First Verse
We all have differences, it takes a glance to see
Different goals, but only one destination
Guidance and love are what you seek, giving worth to you
You want to show who you really are

Chorus:
Pinoy, you are a Pinoy
Show the world what you can do
Pinoy is different, don't be afraid
Be proud, I am Pinoy! We are Pinoy!

Second Verse:
Show the true and real you, whether there's anything bad or good
No one is perfect, just be true (oh, oh, oh)
Guidance and love are what you seek, giving worth to you
You want to show who you really are

Chorus:
Pinoy, you are a Pinoy
Show the world what you can do
Pinoy is different, don't be afraid
Be proud, I am Pinoy! We are Pinoy!

Bridge:
That’s really how life is, you have to get used to it
Nothing will happen if you'll just always conform
Show yourself, no matter what happens to you
Just always think, you can do everything

Chorus:
Pinoy, you are a Pinoy
Show the world what you can do
Pinoy is different, don't be afraid
Be proud, I am Pinoy! We are Pinoy!
